Commitments to us during the 2021 Legislative session
Securing safety to our educators, support staff and students so the 2020-2021 school year will be a success with modifications needed in specific areas with the understanding there is not a "one size fits all" solution. We will trust our teachers to make the necessary decisions.
Our state has had a "de-funding" of public education for decades. Our teachers are the lowest paid in the Nation, our state is suffering with the lack of necessary funds needed to create a culture of life long learners and opportunities in acquiring higher salaries in careers rather then "jobs"
It is time to vote for me, because I will be the voice we need to support our teachers and our future.
INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE IN FUTURE LEGISLATION
Our state Constitution was presented in three languages to represent the citizens of Colorado. At the time only white men were allowed to vote. Since then, Colorado was the first state to grant women access to the ballot before the nation added in the 19th Amendment. We have been a state leading the way to be more inclusive. I will make sure that the legislation I am reading and supporting includes ALL of us. Legislation to improve our lives and personal freedoms without infringing on someone else's rights.
PROTECTING OUR HEALTH and RIGHTS
We need to change the statute of limitations for litigation from contaminations from 2 to 5 years.
In the Fountain Valley Communities we have had to deal with over five major contaminations from industrial to dry cleaners to toxic fire fighting foam. Our health has been affected by cancers and autoimmune diseases that can take several years to show up or correctly diagnose.
IF we have health insurance to even make it to a doctor's office or to a specialist.
The last contamination we had a rush to compile the necessary information and clients for a class action lawsuit that was combined with others at a national level. Litigation is not always the answer, but a fair time period is needed.
I am also committed to continuing on legislation to promote prevention,
rather than reaction.
PROTECTING OUR VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES
As a daughter of a Vietnam Air Force Veteran, my father in law is a Korean War Veteran, I am a wife of a disabled Army Veteran, and now a mom to a Navy sailor, I understand the multigenerational experiences of military service members and veterans. Yet, my experiences are not yours and I am committed to support you and assist you in navigating difficult situations to the best of my abilities. In 2002 the Department of the Army awarded me with the Commander's Award for Public Service, a commitment I will and always have had my whole life.
I will be the voice for our working and military families! We need to continue the work I have already guided in our communities to protect our drinking water systems and establish safe practices so businesses can be responsible for their production processes and maintain a positive impact for all of us. Being "pro-business" in the past has left out the VOTERS in our state. We are the government and for far too long the elected officials here are only concerned about million dollar companies acquiring more wealth than they have been about our working class and military families.
"We Protect US."
PROTECTIONS FOR WORKING FAMILIES
Taking care of our loved ones and children is the greatest humanitarian goal of a successful society. I support paid family leave, expanded healthcare options, an expansion to Colorado Connect for Health subsidies, and access to affordable housing. Access to broadband should be the same as all other utilities in housing areas.
We are living through the Third Industrial Revolution, an advanced time for information and transforming our energy needs into renewable energy. Colorado CAN and should lead the way. It is up to all of use to move our selves forward with policies which set us up for success and not failure.
All workers have a right to collective bargaining.
MODIFYING PAST LEGISLATION
We always have the opportunity to do better for ourselves, and when we know better we need to do better. Modifying past legislation to better represent current needs is just as critical as new legislation. We the people are our own government, and as such we need to adapt and adjust ideas of the past to protect us today.
I will collaborate with you through many town hall discussions, focus groups, and personal meetings.
I am here to work with you to set up a pathway to success.
